COCA-COLA HBC SLOVENIA INTRODUCES KEELCLIP™ PACKAGING TO THE MARKET, ADVANCING TOWARD A ZERO-WASTE FUTURE

Coca-Cola HBC Slovenia has ceased using hard-to-recycle plastic wrap and has introduced KeelClip™, an innovative, minimalist, and fully recyclable cardboard packaging.  Initially, KeelClip™ will be used for multipacks of up to eight cans of Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, and Schweppes. The company plans to gradually expand the use of this sustainable packaging across its entire range of canned carbonated soft drinks.

With innovative solutions such as KeelClip™ packaging, Coca-Cola HBC Slovenia aims to contribute to the World Without Waste vision, a comprehensive multi-year plan, developed in collaboration with its strategic partner The Coca-Cola Company, to address packaging challenges. One of the plan's aims is for Coca-Cola HBC's primary packaging to be fully recyclable by 2025. The use of KeelClip™ is an important step toward achieving this goal.

The introduction of KeelClip™ packaging is just one aspect of Coca-Cola HBC's broader efforts to reduce its environmental impact as a leading socially responsible and sustainable company. Other initiatives include reducing packaging weight, increasing the use of renewable materials, and collecting the packaging introduced to the market.

Through the World Without Waste program, Coca-Cola HBC Slovenia has reduced its overall plastic consumption by a quarter over the past 10 years. This achievement has been made possible by using lighter bottles, produced in collaboration with suppliers and partners, and by introducing a new type of plastic cap that is also nearly 30% lighter. Coca-Cola Slovenia’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated by Römerquelle, the first water on the Slovenian market to be bottled in 100% recycled plastic bottles.

In addition to this program, in October 2021, Coca-Cola HBC committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2040. The company has a clear plan in place and intends to invest €250 million in initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. For emissions that cannot be entirely eliminated, the company plans to offset them by investing in other climate protection measures.
